1992 honda civic distributor?

I have a 92 cevic EX, it's the D16 motor. I started my car this morning, and i heard a loud squeeling noise, i thought it was a belt, but i went under the hood, and the squeeling is coming from the distributor...i asked a friend, and he said lube the lobe (LOL) so i did, it stopped squeeling for about 10 minutes of driving, and did it again...i pulled in my drive way and it started knocking- YES, I'm POSITIVE the engine is not knocking!! So it threw an engine code and now it runs, REAL shi**y- my first question is, is the problem entirely the distributor? or is there something else- also, I know how to change a distributor- should i change it, or take it somewhere?1992 honda civic distributor?

well first read the code since you have a obd1 which is easy

theres a two hole plug on the passenger sider under the dashbox and get a nail clipper and put each side of the clip on the holes and then turn the key to On and the CEL will flash

heres some really helpful info for you

mark the location of the distributor alignment, and pull the distributor , check to see if the dist. shaft bearings are going bad in the distributor .should be 12mm bolts holding the dist. in. also be aware that the slot that drives the dist. is slightly off center . the dist. should slide into hole easily if not turn the shaft 180 degrees. suspect the dist. shaft bearings are going bad.
