What else could it be?

My boyfriend and I buy and sell cars for a living. We sold an 83' GM Cierra Cutlass to this guy for $700. He gave us $540 and said he'd give us the remaining $160 when he got his check. He kept making excuses as time went on and when we sold him the car it purred like a kitten. He would drive it around with his friends, and we'd call and ask him how it was doing and he'd say it ran perfect.

About a month later, he says the car just clonked out on him one day, and never started up again since. My boyfriend went over and checked it out. The car is getting plenty of fire, it's turning and everything, He changed the distributor car, the modulator was changed. It's still not starting up. What else could it be? Carborator appears to be good and the fuel pump is pumping. Any thoughts? What else could it be?
that is your anti theft device, it died because it was not payed for in full , get back to me when you get your final payment. What else could it be?
When you turn the key to START it what happens?

1) Nothing happens? (dead battery?, loose battery cables, or it's not in ';park'; all the way.)

2) You hear a ';click';, but nothing else? (loose battery cables, bad starter, bad starter solenoid, or broken engine)

3) You hear the starter turning, but the engine doesn't turn? (low battery voltage, bad starter or bad ring gear on flywheel/flex plate)

4) The starter turns the engine, but the engine won't start up? (out of gas, bad fuel pump, plugged fuel filter, broken timing belt, no spark)

5) The engine turns over, but very slowly. (weak battery, worn starter, out of engine oil)

6) the engine turns, but there's an awful banging noise? (something is broken inside the engine)
Check the timing %26amp; compression. Did you try a little gas or starting fluid down the throat of the carburetor?

Just curious - did you collect the rest of your money? I suggest to not put very much money or time until you do as you have only got $540 so you cannot have made much profit on that!
I would pick up a spark tester, and see if it it actually getting spark. If it is getting spark spray some starting fluid into the carburetor with the air cleaner off. An engine only need fuel, spark, and compression to run. How well it will run is a different story but that is all it needs. So if you spray the starting fluid into the carb and its still not fireing then I would do a compression check on all cylinders. Just as a precausion check all fluids you dont know what this person did to your car.
